Local Flavours: Where to find a taste of home in Liverpool

Filipino snacks on a blog post - where to find a taste of home in Liverpool!

Life at sea means seeing the world, but it also means being away from your favourite local foods for months at a time. While we try our best to stock international snacks at Liverpool Seafarers Centre, sometimes you may want to explore what else is on offer.

If you have a few hours of shore leave, Liverpool has a fantastic range of international grocery shops within easy reach of the docks. Here is your guide to finding the best Filipino, Indian, and Eastern European flavours in the city.

🇵🇭 Filipino Favourites

For our Filipino crew, there are some great spots to stock up on your favourite foods:

  • Pabili Po Filipino & Oriental Store: A fantastic dedicated spot for Filipino goods. They stock everything from Goldilocks polvoron to D’Original Tipas Bakery Hopia. It’s a little slice of the Philippines right here in the North West.

  • FilGoods Asian Store: Another excellent option for canned goods, condiments, and those specific snacks you’ve been craving since you left port.

🇮🇳 Indian & South Asian Spices

If you’re looking to replenish your cabin with your favourite snacks, head to these spots:

  • Fusion Mart (Walton Road): This is a go-to for many local residents and seafarers alike. It has a massive range of authentic Indian groceries, fresh produce, and very fair pricing.

  • Bombay Basket: Another great place to explore.

🥟 Eastern European & Baltic Goods

For our Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, and Baltic seafarers, Liverpool has several "Polski Skleps" and international markets.

  • Baltica: One of the largest Eastern European supermarkets. They have an incredible deli counter with authentic meats, cheeses, and a huge selection of dumplings (Pelmeni and Pierogi).

  • Chung Wah (Hardy Street): While famous for its Chinese goods, this massive supermarket near Chinatown stocks a huge variety of international items that cater to all Asian and European tastes.
