A Royal Occasion: Liverpool Seafarers Centre Represented at Buckingham Palace

LIVERPOOL, UK — Last Friday marked a historic and proud milestone for the Liverpool Seafarers Centre, as our Chief Executive, John Wilson, attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The invitation followed the prestigious British Empire Medal (BEM) awarded to John in the 2025 New Year’s Honours list—an accolade received on behalf of the Liverpool Seafarers Centre for his dedicated service to the global seafaring community. A Day to Remember

Accompanied by his eldest daughter, Hannah, John joined nearly 10,000 guests in the stunning grounds of the Palace. The event was hosted by the Prince and Princess of Wales, alongside Zara Tindall.

While meeting the Royals in person is reserved for a pre-selected group of guests, the atmosphere was one of celebration and prestige. John enjoyed a clear view of the Royal hosts as they moved through the crowds, marking a truly "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.

Tea, Tradition, and Reflection

Between exploring the historic private gardens of Buckingham Palace and enjoying a traditional Afternoon Tea, the day provided a moment of reflection on the hard work and community spirit that defines the Liverpool Seafarers Centre.

"It was a wonderful occasion and one not to be repeated," John reflected. "To be there representing Liverpool Seafarers Centre and the work we do for mariners was a huge honour. It was a day of happy times and wonderful memories."

Celebrating Our Community

This Royal recognition is a testament to the collective effort of our staff, volunteers, and supporters. Whether we are providing practical support on board vessels or representing the maritime community at the highest levels of British tradition, our mission remains the same: to be a "home away from home" for those at sea.

We are incredibly proud of John and the entire Liverpool Seafarers Centre team for this achievement.
