Liverpool Seafarers Centre has welcomed the Romanian Ambassador Laura Popescu to its Crosby headquarters.
LSC CEO John Wilson was able to give Ms Popescu a tour of the facility explaining the wide variety of practical and emotional support the ecumenical charity offers the 50,000 seafarers visiting Liverpool region ports each year.
He said: “LSC has a strong relationship with the Romanian Government and we give office space to the Honorary Romanian Consul Viorel Raducanescu to help him to support us on welfare issues relating to Romanian seafarers. The consul comes from a maritime background which gives him strong insight into the issues facing seafarers. It was very useful for us to explain how we work together in person to the ambassador. We are grateful the ambassador took time out of her busy schedule to hear some of the challenges seafarers face and how we can support them.”
