Ecumenical charity Liverpool Seafarers Centre will be supporting a National Day of Prayer and Action called in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak.
Churches of all denominations have been urged to support the event, which will take place this Mothering Sunday, March 22.
The Crosby charity is backing the day when people have been asked to light a candle in the window of their homes as a visible symbol of the light of life, Jesus Christ.
Churches Together in England has made the call, asking that participants pray for all in leadership at this time, making decisions about the containment of the COVID-19 virus, for those working in health and social care, and especially for the most vulnerable, whether elderly or those with underlying health conditions.
Liverpool Seafarers Centre has asked that people remember seafarers in their prayers, with many currently left far from home and their loved ones during the crisis.
Chief executive John Wilson said: “In these difficult times when large gatherings are being halted, we may come to a time when churches may need to stop coming together in worship. For this reason, days like the National Day of Prayer and Action are an important way we can still join together to show our support to those dealing with the outbreak and all those affected by it. We need to remember in our prayers all seafarers, many of which may be thousands of miles away from home and their families.”
Churches Together has also urged people to carry out acts of kindness, whether it is taking the opportunity to telephone or email someone who is isolated, buying some additional food for a food bank, or offering to deliver shopping for an elderly neighbour.
